Media release – a perfect pairing: celebrating sexuality and sexual health

It’s official! We’re excited to announce that Moments Condoms will be a ‘Supporting Partner’ and ‘Official Condom Sponsor’ during the 2019 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival – celebrating sexuality and sexual health.

At Moments Condoms, we are proud to shine a spotlight on sexual health through our new partnership with this iconic event, a global beacon of diversity, inclusivity and champion of LGBTQI rights.

Together we celebrate diversity

Our desire to empower people to protect their sexual health and make informed choices with confidence is a great fit with one of the world’s largest celebrations of vibrant and diverse LGBTQI communities – the Sydney Mardi Gras.

The mission of the SGLMG offers a warm and welcoming invitation to everyone: We inspire the world to love each other by celebrating the power and beauty of diversity. At Moments Condoms, we’re excited to be a part of this welcome, as visitors from around Australia and the globe flock to Sydney to revel in the event, and to show lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and same-sex acceptance and pride.

It’s a time to be the very best version of ourselves, when the city bursts with bright colours and wild energy in one of the most beloved, inclusive and life-affirming events in Australia. As the Supporting Partner and Official Condom Sponsor of the festival, Moments Condoms is proud of our role in promoting sexual health awareness—and we’re looking forward to distributing condom packs to enthusiastic festival-goers.

A history of solidarity

Now four decades young, the Sydney Mardi Gras originated in 1978, as a protest against the illegal status of gay and lesbians. The festival continues to be impactful and relevant, witnessed in the 12,000 people who march in the Parade every year to support the LGBTQI community, and in the audience members who number between 300-500,000 people. What’s more, SBS films and broadcasts the Mardi Gras Parade live to more than one million viewers across Australia.

The entire festival gathers over 630,000 attendees to celebrate at 12 different events, with the largest crowds enjoying the Parade, Fair Day and Party. In the last forty years, great strides have been made socially and politically, and same-sex marriage became legal in Australia in 2017.

Moments Condoms recognizes and honours all those who have fought for these rights, and are proud to support the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which continues to raise awareness and acceptance of our differences.

Making the good times, safe times

Partnering with the SGLMG means we can give a big shout out to the importance of protecting our sexual health, and we hope to reach many more with this message, because condom use has declined and, unsurprisingly, STIs are on the rise.

With the AIDS epidemic in the rear-view mirror for young adults, and the opportunity for sexual connections made easier with social media, we believe it’s time for a renewed emphasis on educating and encouraging people to take better care of their sexual health.

Sexuality and sexual health aren’t always partners, but they should be! We’re enthusiastic about the idea of bringing them together through our support of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Festival.

Something for everyone

At the Parade, people from all walks of life and of all stripes line the sidewalks to cheer on the lavishly-costumed participants and their exuberant dancing, as they entertain the city from their spectacular floats.

We like to think Moments Condoms reflects this beautiful array of expression. We’ve got a condom for everyone! We say, don’t be shy, just take your pick. Choose your favourite shape, size, texture, colour, flavour and fragrance—whatever your heart desires.

In 2019, we look forward to celebrating sexuality and sexual health, while supporting the important and inspirational events of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and Festival.
